Directly in the Shiran Tower building (Lužná 2, which is 300 meters from the current primary location), we built a new DC6 data center with TIER III classification. We prepared and designed the construction with FreeTel company for several months, and the actual implementation with suppliers took exactly 8 months. Since August, the data center has been running in test mode, and since November 1st, it has been in full operational mode.
There were several reasons why we decided to invest in building a new data center:
First and foremost, we want to provide our clients with the highest quality services for running the most demanding applications, with SLA availability guarantee. This requires the data center to be equipped with modern technologies. Another reason is the uncertain future of the current data center building (whether the owner will demolish the premises or not), which was a negative argument for further modernization.
The data center now has 2 closed aisles (25 racks of 42U size), which provides space for approximately 1000 physical servers. Two independent power branches lead to each rack. The racks are cooled by Stulz air conditioning, which flows into the cold aisles directly from the double floor. Protection against power outages is provided by a diesel generator located in front of the data center with its backup twin. Power outages are covered by UPS systems from EATON. The entire data center can run on batteries for the time necessary until the required power is supplied from the backup source, i.e., the generator. It starts automatically immediately during a power outage and begins powering the data center within about half a minute of the power failure. The entire center is also monitored by over 200 temperature sensors. Alongside the newest data center, we will also use other data centers in parallel, where we store backups to be geographically separated for security reasons, both standardly and hybrid through Amazon AWS service. The data center will be two-thirds full by the end of the year, so we are already preparing broader partnership with FreeTel company and the next phase, which will more than double the number of racks (and servers) and necessary technologies in the server room.
Access to the data center is through a 24-hour reception with camera surveillance from the entrance to the premises, all the way to independent access to the data center. Access to the rack is then through a phone application, chip, or card supplemented with face scan due to ever-increasing physical security requirements. Further information will be gladly provided by the Greendata team. red
