Lightweight, foldable and with quick deployment. This is exactly what the small wind generator is like, which can be used as a power source even in places where solar fails. Portable devices drawing energy from renewable sources are becoming increasingly efficient and cheaper. On our blog we have already written about solar, water and small fixed wind turbines, but we only came across a mobile wind turbine today. Wind turbines are proven and very affordable generators of energy from renewable sources. They are not suitable for dense urban development, but they definitely have their place under the sun. They are ideal as energy sources for example for expeditions that research in places without sun and where wind constantly blows.
The device is designed to be packed to the size of an umbrella, which is ideal for both transport and storage. When unfolded, it easily opens into three blades in the shape of a turbine, which is covered with robust fabric. The telescopic mast can then be easily attached to the ground and extended so that wind can reach the turbine from all directions.
The turbine rotor is directly connected to the generator shaft in the lower part of the mast. This also transfers electrical energy to the integrated USB port for further power supply. The fully functional micro prototype wind turbine weighs 0.9 kg and is capable of producing a constant output of 5 watts at wind speeds of 18 km/h. You can then power either directly or indirectly through the 24 Wh battery of the additional device. According to the manufacturer, the turbine is also suitable for unstable or gusty wind.
