Prague, September 9, 2020 – The new DC6.cz Shiran Tower data center located in Prague 6 (Shiran Tower, Lužná 716/2, Prague 6) was created in cooperation between hosting-housing company Greendata and telecommunications company FreeTel, and its construction took 5 months.
DC6.cz offers a wide range of data center services to customers including individuals, startups, companies and institutions. It is equipped with standard technologies needed for hosting customer servers and IT infrastructure with approaching compliance to Tier III certification level. Its advantage is its exceptional location in the western part of Prague, where it represents an ideal place for geographic services or separate backups.
All systems important for data center operation are backed up by N+1 or higher system and thus correspond to TIER III level. The data center area and surrounding vicinity with transformer station is in a flood-free zone and currently accommodates up to 2,500 servers with possible future expansion. Thanks to efforts to reduce energy consumption through free cooling and waste heat processing, it was possible to achieve PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness indicator) between 1.3 and 1.4, which is a better result than the average data center has.
"Due to time and financial complexity, we decided not to go the certification route, but only declare compliance with Tier III level through a so-called checklist. We want to give customers a certain idea of how their data and servers will be taken care of," says Jaroslav Střeštík, managing director of FreeTel company, and adds: "Anyone can spend hundreds of millions of crowns on a data center, but operating with a tenth was a real challenge for our companies."
"We paid attention to reducing ecological and financial burden already during construction. Day by day, we looked for smart solutions wherever possible and it had no negative impact on safety or quality of delivered services," describes Zdeněk Maršál, managing director of Greendata company. "Thanks to this, we managed to save natural resources and finances, while also acquiring, for example, a more powerful and economical cooling system."
Data center security is an absolute priority. Access to the DC6.cz data center building is only possible through a secured entrance and to data halls exclusively through biometric access, through a reception with receptionist and security guards who are present on site continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
