How much CO2 was saved by sorting?
Thanks to waste sorting, as much CO2 was saved as 10% of cars in the Czech Republic produce in a year of operation. Through sorting and recycling waste, greenhouse gas production was reduced by 954,579 t of CO2 equivalent in 2010, and enough energy was saved to equal the average annual consumption of 260,000 households, which can be compared to all households of one average region. This is the result of an LCA analysis that assesses all phases of the life cycle of selected recyclable municipal waste and their impact on the environment. The study clearly confirmed that sorting and recycling waste demonstrably reduces the environmental burden.
