How does the measurement work?
If the server does not respond, it may only mean an outage somewhere "along the way", but the dedicated server may still be running. Therefore, in case of measurement failure, it is performed from 2 other different hosting locations than the primary one. If the given page does not respond from any location, it is declared unavailable.
If the machine performing the measurement loses its internet connection, it immediately stops measuring; therefore, it cannot happen that a server would be measured as unavailable just because of an internet outage at the measurement provider.
Currently, each page is measured once every 3 to 5 minutes, which means an average measurement interval of 4 minutes. The results are therefore sufficiently representative.
Before each measurement of the reference website, we check its IP address - this prevents assigning a website to a different hosting. This could happen very easily precisely when a customer changes their hosting.
